About Us

Henry Lord Community School is home to over 800 scholars and their families in the South end of Fall River.

Our K-8 design provides many benefits to our families of students who come to school together each and every day.
We believe that all students deserve a safe and loving experience in their school community where collaboration and innovation drive academic experiences and student achievement. Our motto is "Be the One" and we have accepted the charge to 
BE THE ONE” for our students each and every day, but also to instill this mantra in our students; to “BE THE ONE” for themselves to expect the most out of each and every day and every one of us. We extend this challenge to all students and educators.

Elevating Their Skills

Durfee High School Cosmetology students hit the road for a hands-on learning experience at Hairlines in Shrewsbury, MA. Students participated in a specialized class focused on foil highlighting and graduated haircuts, gaining valuable insight from industry professionals.

Durfee Ensemble Concert for Middle Schoolers

Fall River Public Schools middle school students in grades 6–8 who currently play an instrument were invited to Durfee High School for a special performing arts showcase.

Hosted by the Durfee Performing Arts Department, the event gave the middle schoolers a chance to see and hear what Durfee’s band, orchestra, chorus, and theater programs have to offer — and to imagine themselves as future performers.

Fall River Public Schools Announces Appointment of Kelly-Ann Cooney as Director of Multilingual Learners

Superintendent Dr. Tracy Curley is pleased to announce that Kelly‑Ann Cooney has been named the new Director of Multilingual Learners (MLL) for Fall River Public Schools. This appointment marks a return to the district for Ms. Cooney, who previously served as Director of English Learners in Fall River Public Schools.

Fonseca Elementary Exited from DESE Underperforming Status

Superintendent Dr. Tracy Curley is pleased to announce that the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) has formally exited Mary L. Fonseca Elementary School from underperforming status, pending the approval of the school’s “Exit Assurances and Sustainability Application”. This significant academic milestone was announced earlier today during the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education’s monthly meeting.

The announcement by DESE Commissioner Pedro Martinez marks a major achievement for Fall River Public Schools and the Fonseca school community. “The Fonseca School in Fall River is making significant progress in improving academic outcomes for multilingual learners…through strong collaboration and shared leadership among educators to fulfill the school’s instructional priorities,” said Commissioner Martinez. “We need to learn about our schools demonstrating these strong professional cultures so we can help more students attain the essential conditions for school success.”
